pictures of the city
I'm still dreaming about our wonderful, too-quick Labor Day weekend road trip up to San Francisco. We were gifted with postcard-perfect weather, very little traffic, good friends, yummy food, and great sights, all in my very very favorite city. Lucky, lucky us!
The occasion was a surprise birthday party for a longtime friend of Jacob's. We drove up north on Friday afternoon (managed to beat most of the traffic once we hit the 5 - though getting out of LA was, needless to say, not pretty), checked in to our hotel in Russian Hill, ordered some Chinese food, and set out for a late-night walk. Very pretty neighborhood, with beautiful San Francisco architecture to admire. We walked back to the hotel after about a half hour and crashed.
The next morning, when we woke up, it was foggy and grey - absolutely my favorite! I could see that the sun was peeking out over the buildings from my hotel balcony. We decided to take a walk and enjoy the morning, sightseeing on foot; I'm so glad that we did. The walk was magic - the fog burned off, the sky was perfectly blue, the air was crisp (we were right by the bay).
From Russian Hill to Fisherman's Wharf to Marina Point Park to Fort Mason to Nob Hill to the foot of the crookedest section of Lombard Street:
... then up up up Lombard (I'd like to point out - that crookedness is there because it is steep!).
Finally, back to our hotel to check out and head to the birthday celebration.
We spent the afternoon at the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploratorium - including time in the Tactile Dome - I was just a few minutes away from beginning an ugly freakout process when I finally found the end! (I went through a second time, to prove that I could... still quite freaky. And hot. But fun.) The Palace of Fine Arts is quite pretty - we loved wandering the structures.
We were out super late, we ate great food, we got to spend time with friends. The best kind of weekend. It felt like we walked the entire city on foot, but there is so much more to see there. We already can't wait to go back!

And your frames are cute! Where did you get those?
I'm heading there in three short weeks. I can hardly wait!!
Did you hit any yarn shops?
So glad you both had such a great time!
Hubby and I spent some time in The City over the long weekend as well though it looks like you did a LOT more sight-seeing than we did. We went to the Kings Mountain Art Fair up in the Santa Cruz mountains. The setting was gorgeous, the art was lovely (but pricey). Sadly I didn't take any pictures... We came home with some delicious honey and wonderfully scented soaps. I also got in some serious shopping time - it was my first time at Britex Fabrics. It's quite the shop though I'm sure nothing in comparison to LA - I'm still a fashion district virgin :)
