    feeling wooly again

For the past few months, I've been in somewhat of a creative slump when it came to my knitting. I've been hiking, cooking, watching lots of movies with Jacob, having fun with Charlie, reading more... just no fiber arts. No knitting, crochet, spinning... none of that at all. For the most part, I was ok with it. I know that sometimes things can percolate and I certainly wasn't too worried that I'd never want to knit again. Then, suddenly, it got cold.

    365.182 (yup. snow.)

Uh, yeah. Snow! Funny how the onset of my first winter out of Los Angeles in a decade (and my first snow since I was a child - I am SUCH a California girl!) would give me the urge to bust out some wool, eh?  I know I have lots of WIPs on the needles, but first things first - Jacob needs a hat. He has morning walk duty with Charlie, and for the past couple of weeks, it's been in the 20's when he goes out for a walk, with no indication that any warming is going to happen for a few months. He needs wool! Wool at a tight gauge, with no air holes!

    swatch of squishiness and love

Inspired by the lined hat that Jess made Casey, I'm knitting Jacob a lined beanie (long enough to cover his ears) out of doubled-up Koigu. It should be warm, somewhat wind-proof, and decidedly smooshy. Chocolate brown on the outside, piney green on the inside. Definitely long enough to cover his ears. Simple and quick!

    365.174 (hiking on the plateau)

Despite the cold, we've been hiking and enjoying the miles of trails so close to our house. Charlie loves them too (we wanted an outdoorsy, active dog and we sure got one! Oh, we can't wait to take him camping next summer!):

Gotta love being able to walk right from our house to a park with views like this:

Funny how the cold will do that to you eh? ;) It looks wonderful down there. Can't wait to see how your knits turn out. When are you going to start spinning again? ;) I need more inspiration!

It is rainy and bleh in LA today. I wish I were in the cold with you guys! Which is funny as I am currently freezing, but I try not to question myself too much.

MH! Thank you for the photo of flurries. That is almost the only weather I saw for my first 18 years - growing up in Minnesota and all. I saw that you are wearing your spinning wheel tee. Very cute. Mmmmm...a warm hat. Sounds like the perfect project to get you back into knitting.

How fabulous to live in such 'big sky' country. I love it here in London, but it must be glorious to be able to roam around and see the mountains in the distance (you probably call them hills).

I love the photos - esp the first one of you in the snow - it cracks me up. You'd love LA right now - it's been raining for 5 days! Charlie is cute as a button. Miss you!

Hi. I'm frugalmel on ravelry. I have to say I LOVE the pics of your dog. Also, I am a "seasonal yarn person". When its hot, I will do some, but not that much crochet/yarn crafts. Now bring a bit of a nip to the air or even cool/cold weather and its time to break out the yarn and get busy. So I know what you mean :)

The sweater you're wearing in the first picture, did you make that? What pattern is it? Inquiring minds have to know...

I had the oddest experience with this post. I didn't realize where you were from (though in hindsight I did have an inkling, having seen it on Ravelry). When I saw the first picture in the post I thought, "Hey that looks JUST like my grandmother's backyard!" Then I had to go hunting where you were from, and sure enough, both from Albuquerque!

I don't know if that's a standard kind of backyard or if you're her next door neighbor (well, she's actually in assisted living in Los Alamos now, but you get the picture). ;)
