Tour de Fleece!
Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9:19AM Are you participating in Tour de Fleece? I resisted joining for a while, because historically speaking I consistently bomb when it comes to these big group craft challenges. Every year, I join the Knitting Olympics and the Tour de Fleece, and every year, I'm irritated two days in and distracted by something - anything! - else that I'd like to make. This year, though, I had some friendly encouragement to join on Twitter, and decided to keep my goals simple: spin for at least 15 minutes a day, and use all my spindles at least once during the tour. (I don't have that many spindles). I figured I could do that much...
Day 1:
Day 2:
Day 3:
Day 4:
Day 5:
I am really enjoying the simple, meditative process of spindling each day - and it's amazing how quickly these shorter blocks of time are adding up to some serious progress! I think that the amazing fiber I started with, a Falklands wool that was dyed by both Hello Yarn and Southern Cross Fibre, has a lot to do with the progress, as well. This stuff practically leaps into the drafting zone and onto my spindles! I have 8 oz of this fiber, and going into the tour I certainly didn't think there would be any way I'd be able to spin it all up during that time, but now I think it just might happen!
You can check out the amazing yarn being created this tour in the Tour de Fleece Ravelry group. There are daily progress picture threads that are just blowing me away! I'm always so impressed with the group moderators who coordinate these huge events. They are doing a great job and the experience is a lot of fun. I'm so glad I took the plunge into the Tour!

Thanks for encouraging me to partake in TDF this year. My wheel has been sorely neglected since I bought it in 09 and so far in the tour I've spun up almost 2lbs. Hmm I may be at 1.75lbs. But still I'm excited to see my fiber stash dwindling (er rather just getting a dent in it) and having yarns that I've made that I can knit something awesome with. I'm also really enjoying just trying out all the fibers I've been storing for the past oh 3 years. :)
Next up for me will probably be a proper spinning and a proper photography class. ;)
